The Sugar Industry Tribunal has officially announced the termination of the 2025 crushing season at the Rarawai Mill, which will take effect on Monday, January 12, 2026. This decision was made by Tribunal head Semi Leweniqila after thorough discussions with both the Chief Executive Officer of the Sugar Cane Growers Council and the Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Sugar Corporation.
In a detailed statement, the Tribunal clarified that this directive was based on comprehensive industry assessments and ongoing dialogues with various stakeholders involved in the sugar sector. The notice issued by the Tribunal emphasizes the necessity for farmers and harvesting teams supplying the Rarawai Mill to complete their cane deliveries before the set deadline.
“The Sugar Industry Tribunal, under the direction of Mr. Semi Leweniqila, has mandated the cessation of crushing at Rarawai Mill on the stipulated date,” read the official communication. Furthermore, Registrar of the Tribunal Timothy Brown highlighted the importance of ensuring that all growers and harvesting gangs make every effort to deliver their cane to the mill by January 12, 2026.
The order, which was issued on January 5, 2026, marks a significant development in the local sugar industry, encouraging all stakeholders to maximize their harvesting efforts in the limited time remaining. This proactive approach aims to maintain productivity and support the livelihoods of those involved in the industry.
