MINNEAPOLIS — NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss recently announced he is stepping away from broadcasting due to health concerns and has revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer.
In an emotional Instagram livestream, Moss reassured his fans, stating, “I am a cancer survivor,” sharing that he has gone through significant challenges but has triumphed. He spent six days in the hospital and underwent surgery after doctors found cancer in the bile duct, which is located between the pancreas and the liver. Moss expressed his surprise at his diagnosis, noting, “I didn’t think I would ever be in this position, as healthy as I thought I was.”
Earlier this month, Moss stepped back from his role at ESPN, with the network indicating that a “personal health challenge” was the reason behind his decision. This followed a prior Instagram post on December 1, where he mentioned battling an internal issue and called for prayers.
Since sharing this news, he has received an outpouring of support from colleagues in the media, former players, and the entire Minnesota Vikings organization. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed collective well-wishes from the team, stating, “We love Randy and know our fanbase feels the same way.”
Moss had a storied career spanning 14 seasons with teams including the Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans, and San Francisco 49ers. He ranks fourth all-time in receiving yards (15,292) and second in receiving touchdowns (156). After retiring in 2012, he joined ESPN in 2016 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
This remarkable outpouring of support highlights the impact Moss has had on the NFL community, and the strength he displays through his journey as a cancer survivor is an inspiration to many. His determination to overcome this setback serves as a hopeful reminder that resilience can shine through even in the toughest times.
