The Los Angeles Rams have secured tight end Tyler Higbee with a two-year contract valued at $8 million, as reported by sources familiar with the decision who are not authorized to speak publicly. Higbee, the longest-tenured player on the Rams’ roster, was a key focus for the team ahead of the impending free agency period.

During the last season, Higbee appeared in 10 games, making 25 receptions for 281 yards and three touchdowns. His participation was somewhat limited due to an ankle injury, which resulted in him starting only eight of those games. Nonetheless, he played a vital role within a tight-end unit that emerged as a substantial receiving alternative behind the dynamic duo of Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. Rams head coach Sean McVay frequently employed three-tight-end sets, showcasing rookies Terrance Ferguson, Colby Parkinson, and Davis Allen alongside Higbee.

Higbee was originally drafted by the Rams in 2016, and throughout his career with the team, he has made 386 receptions for 3,949 yards and scored 27 touchdowns across 138 games. His contributions played a significant role in the Rams reaching two Super Bowl matches, culminating in a victory at Super Bowl LVI at the end of the 2021 season. However, his performance was hindered last season as he faced a significant setback due to a torn ACL that limited him to just three games in 2024.

The deal for Higbee comes as the Rams are also closing in on a trade to acquire All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs, expected to involve four draft picks. In addition to this, the team has recently re-signed offensive tackle David Quessenberry.

As the free-agent negotiation window opens on Monday, the Rams will still need to decide how to manage several players poised to enter the market, including notable names like Kamren Curl, Jimmy Garoppolo, D.J. Humphries, Ahkello Witherspoon, and Cobie Durant. This active off-season illustrates the Rams’ commitment to enhancing their roster and competing for success in the coming season.
