Rams QB Stetson Bennett Bounces Back with Game-Winning Touchdown

A week after throwing a game-tying touchdown pass against the Dallas Cowboys, Rams quarterback Stetson Bennett connected with receiver JJ Laap for a 47-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, securing a victory for the team.

Bennett aimed to build on the positives and rectify the errors that marred his performance during the Rams’ narrow 13-12 win over the Cowboys, including throwing four interceptions. For the most part, he succeeded, completing 17 of 31 passes for 213 yards, alongside one interception and a fumble.

“Overall the operation and the execution was better,” Bennett acknowledged.

His performance was bolstered by playing the entire game against the Cowboys and taking second-team reps during a joint practice with them the week prior.

Facing a Chargers defense that was missing star players such as Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack, and Derwin James Jr., while still featuring several starters, Bennett minimized decision-making errors but could not escape a pivotal interception. Following a fumble recovery by the Rams in the third quarter, Bennett led the offense to the one-yard line, but a pass intended for the end zone was intercepted by defensive back Deane Leonard.

Nevertheless, Bennett rebounded in the fourth quarter, connecting with Laap behind coverage to put the Rams ahead 13-9.

After sitting out last season due to a non-football injury, Bennett highlighted that he continues to learn from his mistakes.

“When you don’t play football for so long, you want it to be perfect,” he remarked. “But you kind of gotta make those mistakes to learn from it. As much as I don’t want to do that, it is good that some things like that happen.”
