Rams-Jaguars London Showdown Hangs on Nacua’s Status

The Los Angeles Rams are gearing up to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 7, marking the conclusion of the NFL’s London games for the 2025 season. However, the Rams may have to navigate this crucial matchup without one of their standout offensive players, Puka Nacua, due to an ankle injury.

Nacua suffered an ankle sprain during the Rams’ 17-3 victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6. Although he attempted to return to the game after the injury, he ultimately could not continue. He has not participated in practice since, missing sessions on both Wednesday and Thursday ahead of the team’s trip to London. While the injury is not expected to be long-term, his absence could significantly impact the Rams’ game plan.

As of Thursday, Rams head coach Sean McVay had not confirmed Nacua’s status for Sunday’s contest. However, he indicated that if Nacua does not practice at all this week, it would be challenging for him to take the field. McVay emphasized the importance of preparing players adequately: “There’s a difference between return to play, return to performance,” he noted, highlighting the need for Nacua to feel comfortable and confident before a return.

The Rams will give Nacua one final opportunity to participate in practice on Friday. If he remains sidelined, the team might officially rule him out for the game, particularly with the looming bye week in Week 8.

Even without Nacua, McVay is optimistic about the remaining receivers stepping up. “You don’t ever replace a stud like him, but we’ve got a lot of confidence in the other guys if that’s the case,” he stated.

Currently, the Rams are equipped with six receivers on their 53-man roster. Should Nacua be unable to play, receiver Ben Skowronek would likely take over as the No. 1 option, with Tutu Atwell and rookie Lance McCutcheon also preparing for increased responsibilities. The team has undrafted rookies Tru Edwards and Brennan Presley on the practice squad and may elevate one to bolster their receiving corps.

As the Rams look ahead to Sunday, they remain hopeful for a competitive performance, regardless of Nacua’s availability.
