Rams brace for change with Nacua sidelined ahead of Wembley showdown vs Jaguars

BALTIMORE — The Los Angeles Rams are set to face the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium without one of their star receivers, Puka Nacua, who has been ruled out due to an ankle injury. Nacua’s injury sustained during last week’s 17-3 victory over the Baltimore Ravens has hindered his ability to practice, leading the team to err on the side of caution.

Additionally, right tackle Rob Havenstein will miss his third consecutive game due to a lingering ankle issue. Fortunately, linebacker Omar Speights, who sat out last week with a similar injury, is expected to play.

Despite making some headway in recovery, Nacua’s recent scans were positive, but the decision has been made to allow him to rest through this week and the upcoming bye week. Coach Sean McVay expressed optimism about Nacua’s return, indicating confidence in his rehab efforts. “I’m very confident in having him ready after the bye,” McVay stated, emphasizing the importance of meeting performance criteria for Nacua’s return.

Entering Week 7, Nacua led the NFL with 65 targets and 54 receptions, making his absence felt. He had consistently recorded at least eight catches per game until his injury. In light of Nacua’s unavailability, the Rams will lean on Davante Adams, who currently ranks seventh in the league with 55 targets. Adams is working to improve his connection with quarterback Matthew Stafford, a relationship that has seen a completion rate of just 47.3 percent so far this season.

To fill the gap left by Nacua, Tutu Atwell is expected to start, with Jordan Whittington also likely to see increased playing time. The Rams might consider implementing more two-tight-end formations to adjust for Nacua’s absence.

With Havenstein out, Warren McClendon Jr. will step in at right tackle for the Rams once again. The upcoming bye week promises to be beneficial for Havenstein as he continues to manage his injury, potentially allowing him to return to full form afterward. The Rams remain hopeful that with strategic adjustments and healing time, they can navigate these challenges effectively.
