Heliot Ramos showcased an impressive performance on Sunday, delivering his best game of the season with a standout display despite the San Francisco Giants ultimately falling to the Minnesota Twins, 7-6, marking their second series sweep of the season.
After admitting to a costly baserunning mistake the previous day, Ramos redeemed himself by hitting his seventh home run, driving in a season-high four runs, and reaching base four times. He also contributed defensively with two diving catches. Ramos opened the scoring, driving in a run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, followed by a two-run homer in the fourth that helped the Giants momentarily claim a 4-3 lead.
Despite Ramos’ stellar efforts, the Giants struggled in crucial moments. Erik Miller, pitching in the sixth, faced a tough outing, leading to a game-tying single by Royce Lewis. Camilo Doval inherited a challenging situation with loaded bases but limited the damage to only one run afterward.
Ramos struck again in the eighth, tying the game with a ground ball single that allowed Willy Adames to score. However, despite loading the bases, the Giants couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity. Tensions rose in the ninth when Manager Bob Melvin was ejected after arguing a third-strike call against pinch-hitter Christian Koss.
As the game progressed into extra innings, the Giants took a 6-5 lead with Jung Hoo Lee, who started his first career game at designated hitter, scoring as the automatic runner. Yet, the Twins responded with a tying run when a grounder slipped through third baseman Matt Chapman’s glove, culminating in a walk-off victory for Minnesota when DaShawn Keirsey Jr. delivered the game-winning hit.
Despite the loss, Ramos’ performance highlights his potential for the Giants moving forward, and it reflects the team’s resilience in the face of challenging circumstances.
The Giants will look to rebound as the season continues, with hopes that performances like Ramos’ will inspire the team to improve during their upcoming games.
