Ramos and Navas Face Off in Historic Liga MX Reunion

The matchup between Rayados and Pumas this Saturday is gearing up to be one of the most captivating fixtures of the weekend, not just for the implications on the league standings but also for the reunion of two familiar faces: Sergio Ramos and Keylor Navas. The two players have shared locker rooms in some of the world’s most prestigious clubs and will now meet on the field in Mexican football.

This will mark the first encounter between Ramos and Navas in Liga MX, a league that has welcomed these two European champions who etched their names in history during their tenure at Real Madrid, before joining forces at Paris Saint-Germain. This time, Ramos will don the colors of Rayados de Monterrey, while Navas will guard the net for Pumas UNAM.

Their camaraderie began in 2014 when Keylor Navas transferred to Real Madrid from Levante, with Sergio Ramos already established as a key figure and leader of the team. Over the following five years, they built a strong footballing and personal connection, sharing some of the club’s most glorious moments.

From 2014 to 2019, Ramos and Navas were pivotal members of the historic Real Madrid squad that won three consecutive Champions League titles (2016, 2017, and 2018), along with a La Liga championship, multiple UEFA Super Cups, Spanish Super Cups, and FIFA Club World Cups. Their partnership became synonymous with security and leadership within the team’s dressing room.

After leaving Real Madrid, Navas joined PSG in 2019, while Ramos remained at the Spanish club for another two seasons. Destiny reunited them in 2021, when the Spanish defender also signed with the French side, allowing them to once again play together in Ligue 1 for two additional seasons. During their time at PSG, they added more trophies to their resumes, including the Ligue 1 title and the French Super Cup, all while maintaining the competitive spirit that defined their time in Europe.

This Saturday, at Estadio BBVA, Sergio Ramos and Keylor Navas will find themselves face-to-face once more, but this time on opposite sides of the pitch. It’s a match filled with nostalgia and the prestige of two champions eager to make an impact in Liga MX, a league that will bear witness to the reunion of two legends in football.
