JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville area faced early rain showers on Friday morning, leading The Weather Authority to issue an aerial flood watch for parts of St. Augustine and World Golf Village. Recurrent heavy rainfall in certain neighborhoods has resulted in standing water, prompting concerns about minor flooding in some locations.
The persistent rain, following several days of precipitation, raises worries particularly for low-lying regions and their drainage capabilities. Radar imagery from Exact Track 4D indicates that the showers are advancing inland from the Atlantic, with the heaviest rainfall occurring in Palm Coast, Flagler Beach, Nocatee, and along the coastline near South Ponte Vedra Beach and Villano Beach.
Earlier lightning activity around World Golf Village has subsided, although moderate to heavy downpours are still reported in various areas. While St. Augustine is experiencing clearing skies, neighboring spots such as Sampson, Blacks Ford, Florence, and Clarksville remain under rain.
Travelers are advised to remain vigilant for localized standing water and possible slowdowns on the roads. Although the “feels-like” temperatures aren’t as severe as in previous days, humidity continues to play a significant role, keeping air temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s. While coastal areas may enjoy brief relief from the sticky conditions, higher humidity is anticipated as storms approach.
The forecast for the afternoon predicts additional showers and thunderstorms, particularly from 2 p.m. onward. Due to the unpredictability of these rain pockets, those planning to be outside should carry a poncho or umbrella.
Looking ahead, The Weather Authority’s extended forecast indicates unsettled weather persisting through Wednesday, with daily highs expected in the low to mid 90s and lows ranging from the mid-to-upper 70s. The weekend and the early part of the upcoming week forecast scattered thunderstorms and rainfall totals that might accumulate to four more inches in various communities. Thankfully, no severe weather threats are present today, with only general storms anticipated.
For those attending the Jaguars-Steelers preseason game this Saturday at 7 p.m., plans should include the likelihood of mostly cloudy skies and some rain, with evening temperatures around 82 degrees. Dog owners are also cautioned to keep an eye on the weather when taking morning walks, as rain chances will increase during the afternoon.
