As you head out on Wednesday, be sure to grab a jacket, as significant rainfall is expected to impact the area throughout the morning before tapering to lighter showers in the afternoon. The National Weather Service has identified two surface fronts moving through the region, labeling them as “abnormally moist” for this time of year.

Residents from Portland to the northern Willamette Valley can anticipate steady rain until around noon, with morning rainfall transitioning into isolated light showers into the evening. The temperature is expected to linger around 73 degrees, which is more than 10 degrees below the typical early August highs.

Motorists are being advised to drive cautiously this morning due to slick roads, as the rain could make travel treacherous at times.

Higher rainfall amounts are expected in regions such as the Willapa Hills and northern Oregon Coast Range, where totals could surpass half an inch. In contrast, areas like Portland and northward toward Salem could see between a tenth to a half inch of rain.

Relief from the rain is just around the corner, with forecasts predicting dry conditions for Thursday and Friday. Thursday will bring mostly sunny skies and a modest high of 75 degrees, while Friday will warm up slightly to around 81 degrees.

The weekend forecast indicates a significant shift, with upper-level ridging likely leading to hotter weather. Saturday is set to be sunny with temperatures climbing to around 84 degrees, and Sunday has a high probability of exceeding 90 degrees, with Portland projected to hit 94 degrees. There’s even a chance of temperatures reaching 100 degrees on Monday.

Fortunately, this high-pressure system is expected to move eastward by Tuesday, allowing average summer temperatures to return, which brings a hopeful perspective for those looking to enjoy more typical summer weather in the days ahead.
