Following heavy rainfall over the past few days, traffic has been partially blocked on Interstate 81 in Dauphin County due to a crash linked to the weather conditions. Local meteorologists have reported that although the rain has ceased, creeks and rivers, including the Conestoga River, are still running high, posing potential hazards. The river’s current level stands at 11.2 feet, which is just above flood stage, and it had even approached 13 feet earlier.

In light of the rainfall, many areas in Lancaster County, including Lititz Springs Park, have experienced flooding, which could affect local events like the upcoming July 4th celebration. Organizers are working diligently to clean up the park before the expected influx of nearly 15,000 attendees. Moreover, parts of the park remain submerged, including wooden bridges that are completely underwater.

Cleanup efforts are ongoing across various affected regions, particularly in Manheim, where residents are battling water intrusion in their homes and basements. The local authorities have conducted around 20 water rescues in the area so far. Thankfully, the weather has taken a turn for the better with clear skies emerging, allowing for drying out conditions, which is expected to continue as we approach the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

As we move further into the summer, it’s crucial for residents and visitors alike to stay vigilant and informed about weather updates and potential flooding risks. While the flooding poses challenges, the community’s resilience and proactive approaches demonstrate a hopeful commitment to recovery and safety during these trying times.
