Rewa’s head coach, Priyant Manu, reflected on his team’s performance following their narrow 1-0 victory over Labasa in the first leg of the Pillay Garments Champion vs Champion clash over the weekend. Despite achieving the win, Manu noted that missed opportunities could have proved costly, as Rewa had numerous chances to increase their lead but struggled to finish effectively.
Manu acknowledged the impact of wet and rainy conditions on their performance but stressed that they should not let this serve as an excuse for the missed opportunities. Looking forward to the second leg scheduled for Saturday, he anticipates a tougher match, especially as Labasa, also known as the Babasiga Lions, will be motivated to bounce back after their defeat.
He highlighted the need for his players to deliver their best performance, especially since the next match will take place at Labasa’s home ground, Subrail Park. “We usually train in these types of conditions, so it’s no excuse as to why we couldn’t score more goals. We know Labasa will be looking to make a comeback, so we are expecting a tougher match this weekend,” Manu stated.
Manu also expressed gratitude to the supportive Rewa fans who turned out for the first leg, hoping they will once again show their backing for the team in the crucial second leg. The rematch promises to be an exhilarating encounter as both teams vie for supremacy, with Rewa aiming to maintain their lead while Labasa seeks to turn the tide in their favor.
