Emma Raducanu’s recent match at the Qatar Open saw her retire in the first round against Camila Osorio, just two days after her appearance in the final of the Transylvania Open. The British number one initiated her match confidently, winning the first set 6-2. However, her performance dwindled as she battled health issues, ultimately conceding the second set 6-4 before retiring in the third.
Raducanu called for a trainer after experiencing discomfort and had her blood pressure taken during the match. At 2-0 down in the final set, the 23-year-old decided to forfeit the match, citing her ongoing struggles with a chest infection, which had also affected her fitness during the previous final against Sorana Cirstea at the Transylvania Open.
The young star’s journey has been marred by injuries and inconsistency since her stunning victory at the 2021 US Open. This latest incident follows a trend, as she had previously retired in the first round of the Wuhan Open after medical assessments for her blood pressure and temperature. Additionally, Raducanu has had a turbulent coaching situation, recently parting ways with her ninth coach, Francis Roig, after her second-round exit at the Australian Open earlier this year.
Despite these challenges, there remains hope for Raducanu as she continues to recover and seek stability in her career. Her remarkable talent and determination have already proven her capable of achieving greatness, and with the right support and health, she may yet return to form on the WTA Tour.
