This generous contribution was announced following a successful walkathon designed to raise funds and increase awareness about breast cancer in Fiji.
At the donation ceremony, Petero Manufolau, the resort’s marketing and sales director, expressed deep gratitude to the resort’s guests and staff for their enthusiastic participation in fundraising activities. He recognized the crucial role played by the Fiji Cancer Society in fostering early detection and providing support to cancer patients across the country. The donation was presented to Margie Erbsleben, a board member of the Fiji Cancer Society in Nadi, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in the fight against cancer.
The event featured an inspiring speech from Mere Watisoni, a stage 3 cervical cancer survivor. Watisoni shared her personal experiences and underscored the necessity of early screenings, urging the community to prioritize health check-ups as a life-saving measure. Notably, hotels in Suva, including the Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, and Holiday Inn, collectively raised around $10,000 through various community-focused events aimed at bolstering cancer care.
