Racing de Ferrol’s Transformation: A Summer of Change Ahead!

Ignacio Rivera, the owner of Racing de Ferrol, recently spoke on the program Ao Contraataque on Radio Galega, sharing significant insights regarding the club’s immediate future. This interview coincided with the announcement of the departure of Carlos Mouriz, the club’s former general director, hinting at a period of substantial transformation at A Malata.

Rivera stated that while the project for a new sports complex is progressing well, there is no definite timeline for its completion, stating, “I don’t know if pre-season will take place in the new sports facility. I can’t confirm if it will be in July, August or September, but the project is moving along positively.” Fans are eagerly awaiting updates on this development.

On a more personal note, Rivera expressed how the criticism toward the club’s plans has affected him, admitting, “Sometimes the critical comments hurt, especially when you invest hope into the objectives.” The prior season had marked a difficult chapter for the club, leading to lingering disappointment among supporters.

In terms of leadership changes, Rivera confirmed that the club’s sporting structure will undergo a renewal, with both a new sports director and general director set to be appointed imminently. He hinted that announcements regarding these new appointments could be expected shortly: “We should have the name of the general director and the coach very soon. The process for finding the coach is already more advanced.”

The restructuring extends to the playing staff as well. Rivera insisted that a majority of the team will be overhauled, emphasizing the need for transformation after a challenging season. “The majority of the squad will be new,” he affirmed, highlighting a commitment to revitalizing the roster.

Despite the struggles of the past year, Rivera expressed optimism about the club’s growth over the last seven years, stating, “We have a much better Racing than we did seven years ago.” The focus now is on creating a more competitive team moving forward.

Finally, Rivera did not shy away from his frustration with the team’s performance last season, labeling it as “a disastrous year” and confirming the mutual decision to part ways with Mouriz.

With significant changes on the horizon—including new management and a restructured team, along with the anticipated progress on the sports complex—this summer is poised to be pivotal for Racing de Ferrol. According to Rivera, the club is set to emerge stronger than it has been in recent years.
