Apprentice jockey Tommie Jakes has passed away at the age of 19, a heartbreaking announcement made by the Injured Jockeys Fund and the Professional Jockeys Association. Jakes died unexpectedly at his home near Newmarket on Thursday morning.

During his brief but impactful racing career, Jakes rode 59 winners over the past three years on the Flat in Britain, including a notable 19 victories in 2025. His most recent win was aboard the George Boughey-trained Fouroneohfever at Catterick on October 18. Before his tragic death, Jakes had ridden at Nottingham just a day prior and was set for two rides at Chelmsford the same day he passed.

The joint statement from the IJF and PJA expressed their deep sadness, sharing, “Tommie was a much-loved son and brother, and a popular member of George Boughey’s racing team.” His family has requested privacy as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
