Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has officially announced that he and his family have begun their relocation to the official Prime Minister’s residence at 224 Ratu Sukuna Road. This move signifies a return to a property specifically designed for the nation’s leader.
In a video message, Prime Minister Rabuka revealed that the transition started yesterday, emphasizing the historical significance of the residence. “Today is also the first day of our moving houses, to 224 Ratu Sukuna Road,” he stated. The Prime Minister noted that the residence has served as the official home for Prime Ministers since it was purchased in the early 1990s, and he expressed his family’s excitement about returning to a place they are familiar with.
Rabuka explained that the building he currently occupies is not designated for the head of government, as it actually belongs to the judiciary. He clarified, “This building here belongs rightfully to the Chief Justice, and 224 was specially bought for the Prime Minister to serve as the Prime Minister’s residence, as there was no residence at that time.”
This return marks not just a significant personal milestone for the Rabuka family, but also highlights the importance of the official residence as a symbol of leadership and governance in Fiji. The transition aims to restore tradition and provide the familial support that accompanies such an esteemed position.
