Rabuka Opens Historic Macuata Provincial Council in Nabouono, Fiji

Rabuka Opens Historic Macuata Provincial Council in Remote Nabouono

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will inaugurate the Macuata Provincial Council meeting today in Nabouono Village, one of the more isolated communities in Vanua Levu. This event marks a historic occasion, as it is the first time Nabouono has hosted such a high-profile provincial council meeting.

The gathering will see over 40 delegates representing a total of 105 villages from each of Macuata’s 12 districts convening for a two-day agenda aimed at empowering local youth, women leaders, and traditional chiefs. Alongside the Prime Minister will be various cabinet ministers and senior officials, with an open talanoa session expected before he returns to the capital, Suva.

This meeting resonates with recent discussions from events such as the Tailevu Provincial Council, where Rabuka emphasized collaborative approaches to community development. The agenda in Nabouono aims to tackle ongoing challenges faced by Fijian communities and seeks to promote initiatives across various sectors. The Prime Minister’s previous engagements have underscored the importance of economic empowerment and rural development as central tenets of the National Development Plan, and it is anticipated that the discussions in Nabouono will emphasize these themes as well.

Bringing such a wide array of leaders together in a remote location reflects an encouraging commitment to bolster community connections and enhance development throughout Fiji. As communities align towards shared objectives, this meeting paves the way for collaborative initiatives that could lead to significant improvements in the quality of life for residents in these villages, heralding a promising outlook for rural development in the nation.
