QVS Old Boys Clash Sparks Fiji Rugby Spirit at SLR Shield

The Queen Victoria School Eastern Old Boys claimed victory over their Western rivals with a score of 22-17 in the annual SLR Shield Rugby Challenge, held yesterday at Churchill Park in Lautoka. This match celebrates a tradition that brings together alumni from Queen Victoria School across Fiji, reinforcing the bond shared among the school’s former students.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka attended as the chief guest and extended his congratulations to the Eastern team for their hard-fought triumph. He reflected on his own experiences at Matavatucou, emphasizing the importance of discipline and perseverance instilled during his time there. “I encouraged the players to keep working hard, stay focused, and aim high. One day, I hope to see many of them wearing the white Fiji jersey, carrying our nation forward with pride and determination,” he stated.

The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to sponsors, particularly OB Poasa Koroitamana of the Divine Fijian Group, as well as the QVS Old Boys network, which plays a crucial role in preserving the tradition of the SLR Shield.

This year’s challenge serves as a reminder of the continuous spirit and camaraderie among the Queen Victoria School alumni, who contribute to the heritage of Fijian rugby. The event not only showcases athletic prowess but also strengthens the community ties associated with the school, furthering its legacy in Fiji’s rugby culture.
