QVS Launches First-Ever Off-Season Training Ahead of 2026 Season

Queen Victoria School (QVS) is taking a significant step forward in its athletics program by introducing its first-ever structured off-season training initiative. This marks a pivotal change for the school, which has managed to consistently rank among the top competitors at the Coca-Cola Games even without a formal pre-season training regimen.

With preparations for the 2026 season already underway, QVS aims to enhance its athletic performance standards further. Banuve Tabakaucoro, the former South Pacific sprint champion and current sprint coach at QVS, advocates that this updated approach is overdue.

Tabakaucoro, who joined the QVS athletics program recently, highlighted that last season did not include an off-season training program. “Building into 2026, the school and management along with the QVS taskforce have decided to implement something unique this year, which is to run an off-season program,” he said.

Historically, QVS has excelled without structured early preparations, regularly finishing within the top three or five at the Coca-Cola Games. Tabakaucoro firmly believes that the new off-season program will provide athletes with a stronger foundation, presenting a significant opportunity to increase the school’s competitiveness in the upcoming season.

He stated, “Over the years, we’ve always seen QVS in the top three or top five at the Coca-Cola Games without running proper off-season programs, so this will give us a better opportunity moving into the season next year and just get the boys a lot more prepared.”

The focus of this initiative is not only on short-term gains but also on cultivating long-term discipline and developing athletes in the correct manner. This strategic shift promises a brighter future for QVS athletics, potentially leading to even greater achievements in competitive sports.
