The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) failed to hold its scheduled meeting yesterday due to an insufficient number of members present, which resulted in a lack of quorum. Tomasi Bainivalu, the Chief Registrar and secretary of the JSC, confirmed the cancellation in the afternoon, noting that the commission plans to reconvene later this month.

“We didn’t conduct our meeting today as we did not reach our quorum,” Bainivalu stated, adding, “But the meeting will be before the end of this month.” Members of the commission were noted to be present both before and after the planned meeting time, signaling an expectation for proceedings; however, Chief Justice Salesi Temo’s absence was observed.

This meeting’s postponement occurs amidst ongoing discussions regarding President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu’s decisions related to the recommendations from the JSC regarding Acting FICAC commissioner, Lavi Rakoika. The upcoming meeting promises to be significant as the commission looks to address not only routine matters but also the pressing issues currently under scrutiny.

The JSC is expected to provide clarity and direction in its next session, which may reflect the evolving judicial landscape and its responses to recent challenges.
