The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) was unable to conduct its scheduled meeting yesterday due to insufficient member attendance, resulting in a lack of quorum. Tomasi Bainivalu, the Chief Registrar and secretary of the JSC, confirmed the cancellation in the afternoon, highlighting that the commission aims to reconvene later this month.
Bainivalu stated, “We didn’t conduct our meeting today as we did not reach our quorum,” while expressing assurances that the gathering would occur before the end of the month. There were members present both before and after the meeting’s scheduled time, indicating an expectation for the proceedings; however, Chief Justice Salesi Temo’s absence was notably mentioned.
This postponement comes at a critical time as discussions continue around President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu’s decisions regarding the recommendations from the JSC for the Acting FICAC commissioner, Lavi Rakoika. The next meeting is anticipated to be significant, as the commission will address not only routine matters but also the vital issues currently under examination.
The upcoming session is expected to shed light on the evolving judicial framework, providing necessary clarity and direction in response to recent challenges facing the legal system. This proactive approach suggests a hopeful outlook for the commission as it aims to navigate through pressing legal matters effectively.
