Quarterbacks Jayden Daniels and Josh Allen both delivered standout performances on Monday night as they helped secure significant wins for their teams in Week 3 of the NFL season.
Daniels, the second overall pick in the April draft, excelled in the Washington Commanders’ thrilling 38-33 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. He completed 21 of 23 passes, amassing 254 yards and tossing two touchdowns. The highlight of the game came from his second touchdown, which was a pivotal moment.
With the Commanders leading narrowly at 31-26 and facing a 3rd-and-7 situation at the Bengals’ 27-yard line, Daniels delivered under pressure. After hitting a crucial fourth down earlier in the drive, he absorbed a hit from a pass rusher and released a perfectly thrown pass to Terry McLaurin, who made a diving catch in the end zone to secure the win with just over two minutes remaining. This victory brought the Commanders to 2-1.
Conversely, the Bengals fell to 0-3, marking a surprising downturn for a team expected to contend for the AFC crown. After losing to the New England Patriots in the opening week, Cincinnati’s struggles continued as they lost again at home, a scenario that has historically made it difficult for teams to recover. No team has ever won the Super Bowl after starting the season with three consecutive losses.
In contrast, the Buffalo Bills, viewed as strong contenders in the AFC, put in a dominant performance at home, defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 47-10. The Bills scored touchdowns on their first five possessions, leading 34-10 at halftime. Allen showcased his skills by throwing for 263 yards with an impressive 23 of 30 completions, including four touchdowns in the first half alone. Notably, he had more passing yards in the first half (247) than the Jaguars did for the entire game (239). Six different players for Buffalo found the end zone.
For the Jaguars, quarterback Trevor Lawrence is now on an eight-game losing streak dating back to the last season. He struggled on Monday, completing just 178 yards on 38 attempts and throwing an interception, which was the first career pick for Bills safety Damar Hamlin. Jacksonville also fell to 0-3 with this defeat.
The Bills remain undefeated at 3-0 and appear to be one of the top teams in the league.
