Christian Pulisic made headlines by scoring directly from a corner kick, leading AC Milan to their first win in this season’s Champions League. However, the United States international acknowledged that the goal was somewhat accidental.
In the 34th minute of the match against Club Brugge on Tuesday, Pulisic executed a surprising curling corner that found its way into the net, putting Milan up 1-0. His unexpected goal was met with joy as he raised his arms in celebration and shared a laugh with teammates, appearing astonished by the outcome.
Reflecting on his fortunate strike, Pulisic commented, “Today it was a bit of luck but it’s still worth a goal. I’m very happy. I didn’t try to do that but it was a good cross, and after a nice goal, but I wasn’t trying that.”
This season has been promising for Pulisic, as he has now scored seven goals for Milan and contributed several assists. He expressed his determination, stating, “I work hard every day. I always want to be decisive in matches. I’m very happy this year, I’m getting a lot of goals and assists, but it’s not always like that. So I’ll continue like this and hope to continue scoring.”
The match also had a tense moment when Pulisic suffered a knee knock late in the game, prompting concern from coach Paulo Fonseca. Fortunately, the 26-year-old was able to return to the field and came close to adding another goal to his tally.
AC Milan ultimately secured a 3-1 victory over Brugge, earning their first points in the revamped Champions League format after previous losses to Liverpool, where Pulisic also found the net, and Bayer Leverkusen.
