The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is actively promoting community involvement in the review of an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report for a proposed 13-storey apartment complex at Laucala Bay, Suva. Dubbed Barret Place Apartments, this development is spearheaded by Charan Katonivere Holdings Pte Ltd and is set to be constructed on Lot 18, DP 5274, Barret Place.
In accordance with the Environment Management (Amendment) Act 2025, members of the public will have a 21-day period to review and provide comments on the EIA report following its submission to the EIA Administrator. The report will be available for public access starting December 27, 2025, at various locations, including the Department of Environment Headquarters and local police stations in Toorak and Flagstaff.
The Department of Environment has outlined that valid feedback must be submitted within 21 working days from the report’s availability, necessitating that all comments be submitted by January 27, 2026, to effectively influence the assessment process.
This effort underscores the Ministry’s commitment to fostering public engagement in environmental decisions, which is crucial for incorporating a wide range of perspectives as the project progresses. The Ministry is optimistic that increased community participation will lead to improved environmental outcomes for the Barret Place Apartments development, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in shaping sustainable urban living.
