The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is encouraging public participation in reviewing an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report regarding a planned 13-storey apartment complex at Laucala Bay, Suva. The development, known as Barret Place Apartments, is proposed by Charan Katonivere Holdings Pte Ltd and will be located on Lot 18, DP 5274, Barret Place.

According to the Environment Management (Amendment) Act 2025, the public has a 21-day window from the submission date of the report to the EIA Administrator to review and comment on the proposal. The report will be physically accessible starting December 27, 2025, at several locations, including the Department of Environment Headquarters and local police posts in Toorak and Flagstaff.

The Department of Environment has specified that feedback will be considered valid only if submitted within the 21 working days following the report’s placement. Interested individuals must ensure their comments reach the Department by January 27, 2026, in order to influence the assessment process.

This initiative focuses on enhancing community involvement in environmental decisions, aiming to gather diverse perspectives as the project moves forward. The Ministry is hopeful that enhanced public engagement will contribute to better environmental outcomes for the proposed development.
