Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir attended the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) X match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday, marking the tournament’s return after a temporary halt following recent tensions with India.
In a show of respect for the Pakistan Armed Forces, players and officials honored the military before the game commenced between the Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi. A moment of silence was observed to pay tribute to the nation’s martyrs, which was followed by the national anthem. The atmosphere in the stadium was vibrant with chants of “Pakistan Zindabad” and a display of national flags, culminating in a fireworks show that celebrated the unity and pride of the nation.
As the first innings came to a close, additional tributes were held in the presence of General Munir, along with Director General ISPR Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi. Renowned actor and host Hamza Ali Abbasi announced that the first three days of PSL 10 in Rawalpindi are dedicated to the military forces, with specific days set aside for the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The PSL previously faced an indefinite postponement due to escalating security concerns sparked by India’s aggressive military actions, which included drone and missile strikes. Initially, the PCB intended to relocate the remaining matches to the UAE, but the recent situation led to the suspension of the league.
This continuation of the PSL amidst tensions showcases the resilience and spirit of cricket in Pakistan, as well as the unwavering support for the armed forces that protect the nation. The event serves not only as a sporting occasion but also as a moment of national pride and solidarity.
