“PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary: A Collector’s Dream or Reseller’s Goldmine?”

Sony’s limited-edition PlayStation 5 Pro 30th Anniversary console went on sale early Thursday morning for $999.99, drawing a long queue of eager consumers. However, despite waiting over an hour, the console quickly sold out as resellers competed to purchase the rare item.

Many of the resellers have since listed the console on eBay, with prices soaring above $4,000. Some have provided purchase receipts as proof, noting that the device is not expected to ship until November 21. One reseller is even attempting to sell it for an eye-watering $10,000, although data from eBay’s Terapeak tool shows no sales for these listings. Other resellers have set their starting prices at around $3,000.

The scarcity is emphasized by the fact that only 12,300 units of the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary were produced, a number that symbolizes the launch date of the original PlayStation console in Japan back in 1994.

Despite the scalpers, some consumers successfully purchased the console directly from Sony’s website early on Thursday. Additionally, Sony has started preorders for the PS5 Pro on the same day, with units still available for purchase through the PlayStation Direct site.

The PS5 Pro is set to officially launch on November 7. However, its retail price of $699 and the controversial decision to exclude a disc drive may have dampened overall demand. Further reviews are expected to follow.
