Boxing promoter Samir Khan has assured fans that he will address the disruption during the recent Bluewater Boxing event in Nadi. The event at Prince Charles Park had to be cut short by police when it exceeded the allowed time for venue use. Khan expressed his frustration over the situation, highlighting that boxing events sometimes run beyond the planned schedule. He extended a heartfelt apology to the spectators, acknowledging the efforts and costs they incurred to attend from various parts of Fiji.
Khan noted the significant turnout, stating, “People came from all over Fiji, making sacrifices and spending money to enjoy the sport they love.” He emphasized his appreciation for their dedication and assured that plans are already underway for another event. Khan promised that steps would be taken to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future.
This is not the first time Bluewater Boxing Promotions has faced challenges. In previous events, issues concerning security and scheduling have been highlighted by the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF). These have included instances of poor crowd management and unauthorized access to the ring, leading to brawls and fights being declared no contests. The BCF has stressed the importance of maintaining high standards and adhering to agreed-upon guidelines to ensure the safety and enjoyment of both participants and fans.
Despite these challenges, Bluewater Boxing remains focused on promoting the sport in Fiji. Previous events have showcased international competition alongside local talent, contributing to a growing interest and participation in boxing across the region. Khan continues to push for improved event organization, aiming to deliver memorable experiences that satisfy both the local community and the wider boxing audience.
The promoter’s commitment to enhancing future events is a hopeful sign for Fijian boxing, promising a brighter and more organized future for fans and athletes alike.
