Priscilla Presley recently opened up about one of the most devastating days of her life—the passing of her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, in 2023 at the age of 54. In a heartfelt interview with People magazine, Priscilla, 80, revealed the emotional turmoil she faced on the day she lost her only daughter with the late Elvis Presley.
Describing the painful experience, Priscilla recounted that it was the second saddest time she had ever endured, only surpassed by the loss of Elvis. The sorrow of losing Lisa Marie was a heavy burden to bear, and Priscilla admitted it took a significant amount of time to fully come to terms with the tragedy.
Lisa Marie was taken to the hospital after being found unresponsive by her former husband, Danny Keough, at her home. The cause was identified as a small bowel obstruction, a complication from a bariatric surgery she had undergone years earlier. Priscilla joined Keough at the hospital, where she stayed the entire day, hoping and praying for a miracle.
Reflecting on those fateful hours, Priscilla remembered that Lisa Marie was on a ventilator, but despite their hopes, the doctors eventually indicated the inevitable. “For hours we were there waiting, hoping and praying until the doctor came in and said, ‘Priscilla, I’m so sorry, she’s gone,’” she recalled.
The grief extended to the entire family, particularly affecting Lisa Marie’s children: actress Riley Keough, and her 16-year-old twins Harper and Finwood Lockwood, whom she had with ex-husband Michael Lockwood. Coming to terms with such an irreplaceable loss has been a challenging journey for all of them.
Lisa Marie Presley’s untimely death has left a profound void in the lives of her family and those who knew her well. Yet, despite the sorrow, the family continues to hold onto the cherished memories and legacy she left behind, providing a beacon of hope and strength in their darkest times.
