The Princeton Tigers swimming and diving team is gearing up for an upcoming meet in Philadelphia, where they will compete against Ivy League rivals Penn and Cornell. The meet is set to be held at Drexel Pool, with diving events kicking off on November 22, followed by pool events on November 23 at 3:00 PM.
Recently, Princeton’s swimmers and divers have showcased impressive performances, breaking five pool records. Notable moments include the team of Yanning Zhang, Patrick Dinu, Logan Noguchi, and Brett Feyerick achieving a new record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:29.94. Yanning Zhang also set a new individual record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 47.13 seconds, and Patrick Dinu followed by breaking the 100 freestyle record with a record of 42.91 seconds. Moreover, Mitch Schott made headlines by demolishing the previous pool record in the 200 butterfly, finishing with a remarkable time of 1:42.22, which stands as the second-fastest in program history. The day concluded with an impressive 400 freestyle relay where Schott, Zhang, Noguchi, and Dinu clocked in at 2:54.26.
Freshman Patrick Dinu has made an immediate impact, setting both a freshman and program record in his first collegiate meet on November 9, with remarkable times in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.
Mitch Schott, serving as the junior captain, has also distinguished himself this season by breaking his own record in the 200 freestyle.
On the diving front, sophomore Aidan Wang exhibited dominance by winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, aided by teammates Luca Fassi and George Callanan who secured additional podium finishes in both events.
Due to a strong start to the season, Princeton’s swimming and diving team has climbed into the No. 25 position in the November edition of the CSCAA dual meet poll.
The Tigers are proud to have NCAA qualifiers like Aidan Wang, Luca Fassi, and George Callanan, who competed in various events at the NCAA Championships. Excitingly, eight members from their previous season have returned with All-Ivy honors, highlighting the strength within the team.
Princeton’s talent pool is also diverse, with athletes representing 12 different countries at the Olympic trials, including participants aiming for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Among them, Adell Sabovic notably represented Kosovo as the flag bearer in the closing ceremony.
Looking ahead, the Tigers welcome ten new members from the Class of 2028, further strengthening their roster for the upcoming seasons.
The team has established leadership for 2024-25, with Mitch Schott, Brett Feyerick, and Tyler Hong taking on the role of captains.
