Princeton Tigers Make Waves Ahead of Ivy League Showdown

The Princeton Tigers swimming and diving team is preparing to compete against Ivy League rivals Penn and Cornell in Philadelphia. The meet is scheduled to take place at Drexel Pool, with diving commencing on November 22, followed by pool events on November 23 at 3:00 PM.

The team recently achieved remarkable success, breaking five pool records in their latest competitions. The 200 medley relay team, consisting of Yanning Zhang, Patrick Dinu, Logan Noguchi, and Brett Feyerick, set a new standard with a time of 1:29.94. Individual records were also shattered, with Zhang recording a time of 47.13 in the 100 backstroke, and Dinu clocking 42.91 in the 100 freestyle. Mitch Schott made headlines by smashing the pool record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:42.22, the second-fastest in program history. The successful day concluded with a strong performance in the 400 freestyle relay, securing a time of 2:54.26.

Freshman Patrick Dinu made an impressive debut on November 9, setting both a program and freshman record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 42.51, alongside a 53.49 in the 100 breaststroke. Junior captain Mitch Schott also started the season outstandingly, breaking his own 200 freestyle record with a time of 1:32.78. Currently, he ranks among the top 10 fastest times across four events.

In diving, sophomore Aidan Wang stood out by winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, with teammates Luca Fassi and George Callanan earning second and third places, respectively.

With these compelling performances, Princeton now ranks No. 25 in the November edition of the CSCAA dual meet poll. The team’s talent is further highlighted by eight members who earned All-Ivy honors last season, including Aidan Wang and Noah Sech.

Additionally, the Tigers showcased a multitude of international talent, with swimmers and divers from 12 countries competing at the Olympic trials for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. Among them, Adell Sabovic represented Kosovo and was honored as the flag bearer during the closing ceremony.

To strengthen their future, Princeton has welcomed 10 newcomers from the class of 2028, who are set to augment the team’s depth. The leadership team for the 2024-25 season comprises Schott, Feyerick, and Hong as captains.

The Tigers’ impressive start to the season and the infusion of fresh talent bode well for their prospects as they aim for excellence in the Ivy League and beyond.
