Princess Zelda Shines in Echoes of Wisdom: A Game Changer for the Franchise!

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has received a Metacritic score of 86 based on 74 critic reviews, indicating generally favorable feedback. The game boasts a strong 91% positive review rate, with 7% mixed and no negative reviews.

This marks the first time Princess Zelda takes center stage in her own game, released exclusively for Nintendo Switch on September 26. In celebration of the launch, Nintendo is also introducing a limited edition Nintendo Switch Lite.

Critics have largely praised Echoes of Wisdom for its innovative approach to the traditional top-down Zelda gameplay. Dexerto highlighted it as a significant advancement for the franchise, blending nostalgia with modern elements, and noted the game’s creativity and success in revitalizing the series.

Nintendo Life echoed this sentiment, suggesting that Echoes of Wisdom sets a new benchmark for top-down Zelda games by effectively merging classic and contemporary mechanics. They positioned it alongside beloved titles like A Link to the Past as one of the series’ best.

IGN remarked that Echoes of Wisdom is more than just a side project, seamlessly combining intricate dungeon design with creative elements reminiscent of Tears of the Kingdom.

However, not all reviews were overwhelmingly positive. VGC pointed out that, despite its ambitious concepts, the game does not fully utilize its headline mechanics, making it feel less essential compared to other recent 2D Zelda entries. The Guardian also criticized the gameplay, noting the challenges of taking an active role without combat capabilities.

Despite some mixed feedback, the overall positive reviews for Zelda’s debut as the lead character suggest that there is potential for future titles featuring the Princess.
