Prince Harry Apologizes to Canada Over Dodgers Cap in World Series Moment

LONDON — Prince Harry has extended an apology to Canada after donning a Los Angeles Dodgers cap during a World Series game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Duke of Sussex and his wife, Meghan, were spotted seated in the front row at Game 4 of the series, both wearing the striking blue hats. This choice raised eyebrows in Canada, a Commonwealth country and the couple’s former home, where Harry’s father, King Charles III, is the head of state.

In an interview with Canadian broadcaster CTV on Thursday, Harry candidly stated, “Firstly, I would like to apologize to Canada for wearing it. Secondly, I was under duress. There wasn’t much choice,” adding a playful tone to the situation. He explained that he felt wearing the Dodgers cap was “the polite thing to do” after receiving an invitation from the team’s owner.

Nevertheless, Harry quickly switched to a Blue Jays cap for the remainder of the series, reflecting support for Canada’s only Major League Baseball team. Despite their efforts, the Blue Jays ultimately fell to the defending champion Dodgers in a tense Game 7.

Elaborating on his initial cap choice, Harry remarked, “When you’re missing a lot of hair on top, and you’re sitting under flood lights, you’ll take any hat that’s available.” While visiting Canada for Remembrance Week events, he received a Blue Jays hat while meeting with the country’s oldest veterans. During the interview, he expressed his disappointment about Toronto’s loss, stating, “Game 5, Game 6, Game 7, I was Blue Jays throughout. Now that I’ve admitted that, it’s going to be pretty hard for me to return back to Los Angeles.”

After stepping back from royal duties, Harry and Meghan currently reside in Montecito, California, with their two children, Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4. Meghan has her own history with Canada, having lived in Toronto while filming the television series Suits, and the couple enjoyed their early relationship there before moving to Los Angeles in 2020. Meghan has also shown support for the Blue Jays in the past, further intertwining their Canadian connections.
