The relocation occurred during the half-term break for their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—with the couple aiming to be settled by Bonfire Night. Reports indicate that the family is gradually becoming accustomed to their new surroundings.
This transition is perceived as a fresh start for the family, particularly following Kate’s recovery from cancer. Meanwhile, William is preparing for his upcoming solo trip to Rio de Janeiro for the Earthshot Prize Awards. Interestingly, their new home places them in closer proximity to William’s uncle, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, who currently resides at Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park. Although their residences are about 1.4 miles apart, this closeness comes amid a backdrop of controversy surrounding Andrew, who is set to vacate Royal Lodge for a new home on King Charles’ private Sandringham estate next year. Andrew faced scrutiny following allegations from Virginia Giuffre related to his association with Jeffrey Epstein, accusations he denies.
In preparation for the Wales family’s move, an exclusion zone was established around Forest Lodge in September, which has led to local frustrations over the permanent closure of nearby access routes. Residents who previously held keys to certain gates have raised concerns about the criminal implications tied to the newly designated restricted area. The enforcement of this no-go zone is in line with regulations under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act of 2005.
The Wales family also maintains residences at Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate and Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace, underscoring their ties both to royal traditions and modern living arrangements.
