Prime Video is revamping the beloved Barbershop franchise, introducing an exciting new television adaptation that promises to deliver laughs and vibrant personalities. The upcoming series will feature a stellar lineup of guest stars well-known for their comedic talent, enhancing the show’s already engaging atmosphere.
Among the newly announced cast members are Zack Fox from Abbott Elementary, who will portray Alderman Warren, and former Saturday Night Live cast member Ego Nwodim in the role of Shelly-Ann. Joining them are fellow SNL writer Devon Walker as Southside Swole and the talk show host Ziwe taking on the role of Abbi.
The guest star roster also includes Tituss Burgess of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt fame, who will play Juan Grillz, and Diallo Riddle from South Side as Pastor Devante. Comedian CP and Belmont Cameli will round out the guest appearances, portraying Marvin and Shep, respectively.
Leading the cast is Jermaine Fowler, who embodies the character Travis “Trav” Porter, a determined young barber working to establish his own identity while respecting the legacy of his grandfather, a legendary figure at Calvin’s, Chicago’s iconic barbershop. Despite the introduction of new barbers, the shop remains as lively and spirited as ever, teeming with engaging debates and a vibrant community atmosphere. As the show’s official logline suggests, “While the barbers are new, the shop remains just as lively, the customers just as argumentative, and the fades are still the dopest in the city — because at Calvin’s, the community comes together for way more than just a haircut.”
Fowler’s character will be joined by a talented main cast that includes Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., and E.J. Bonilla. Behind the scenes, Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the original Barbershop film, takes on the roles of writer and executive producer, further ensuring that the adaptation stays true to the spirit of the beloved franchise.
This new venture infuses fresh energy into a classic narrative, while still honoring the fabric of community and humor that made Barbershop a hit in the first place. With its strong ensemble and familiar comedic faces, audiences can look forward to a delightful blend of laughter and camaraderie when the series debuts.
