Prescott’s Record-Breaking Deal: What It Means for the Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott have finalized a four-year, $240 million deal, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history, according to several reports.

This contract features $231 million in guaranteed funds. ESPN was the first to report on the agreement.

Prescott was entering the final year of his previous contract, and after lengthy negotiations, he secured the largest contract in league history, averaging $60 million per season.

Shortly after the contract was signed, Prescott guided his team to a 33-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

At 31 years old, Prescott was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He is embarking on his ninth season in the NFL, all with the Cowboys, and boasts a record of 73-41, though he holds a postseason record of 2-5.

In the previous season, Prescott achieved career highs with 410 completions and 36 touchdown passes, amassing 4,516 yards and only nine interceptions. He led the Cowboys to a 12-5 record, but they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Green Bay Packers.

This contract marks the second significant offensive agreement for the Cowboys this offseason, with Prescott joining his primary receiver, CeeDee Lamb, who also secured a new contract. Both players are now under contract through 2028.

The Cowboys are competing against the Cleveland Browns in their Week 1 opener.
