Premier League Set to Revolutionize Media with New In-House Operation

At a shareholders’ meeting for Premier League clubs, it was unanimously decided to establish a new in-house media operations business, set to launch with the start of the 2026/27 season. This initiative will see the Premier League take full control of its international media content production and distribution, a service that has been provided in collaboration with IMG for the past two decades through Premier League Productions (PLP).

Since its inception in 2004, PLP has played a pivotal role in connecting broadcasters and fans across more than 180 countries with the excitement of Premier League football. The collaboration has been marked by continuous efforts to enhance quality and innovation in live event production, utilizing cutting-edge technologies and exceptional on-screen talent to cover all 380 matches each season along with a range of supporting programming.

During the transition phase, IMG will remain committed to delivering services for the next two Premier League seasons, ensuring that fans worldwide continue to receive a top-notch viewing experience. Paul Molnar, Chief Media Officer of the Premier League, expressed gratitude towards IMG for their invaluable partnership over the years, noting that their collaboration has been central to the league’s growth and its global fanbase.

Barney Francis, EVP of Studios at IMG, acknowledged the substantial impact their work has had on how fans experience football and the league’s growth in international markets. He highlighted numerous innovations introduced during their partnership, including advancements in broadcast technology such as the shift from SD to HD and now to 4K.

As preparations are underway for this new venture, further details surrounding the Premier League’s in-house media operations will be shared before the official launch in 2026.

This transition signifies an exciting new chapter for the Premier League as it aims to further enhance its global presence and engage with fans in a more direct manner. The league’s commitment to innovation holds promise for brighter broadcasting experiences, helping to foster even deeper connections with audiences around the world.
