The new international trailer for “Predator: Badlands” has shed light on the film’s plot, showcasing a shift from the traditional Yautja code of honor to a deeper exploration of identity through the character of Dek. Portrayed by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, Dek embarks on a perilous quest on the aptly named Death Planet, aligning with Elle Fanning’s character, Thia. Thia warns that everything on the planet poses a threat, emphasizing the high stakes as many of Dek’s kind have met their end there. For him, there is no retreat; Death Planet represents his sole opportunity for survival and a chance to prove himself.

In a notable line from a Yautja in the trailer, there is a stark reminder that in this tribe, you are either a hunter or the hunted. As an outcast, Dek’s journey takes on greater significance, making his mission more than just a conventional Yautja hunt—it’s a quest for acceptance and identity.

Visually, “Badlands” appears to embrace a more CGI-driven aesthetic compared to its predecessors, which is instrumental in its designation as a PG-13 film. This marks a departure from the franchise’s historical R-rated content, primarily due to the depiction of the Weyland-Yutani crew as synthetics, thus avoiding graphic violence associated with human characters. Nevertheless, the trailer suggests that the movie retains the franchise’s signature intensity and violence, aiming to engage a wider audience.

Producer Ben Rosenblatt expressed aspirations for “Predator: Badlands” to achieve the thrill of an R-rated film while still being PG-13, thus broadening its appeal. The anticipation builds as the release date approaches, set for November 7, 2025. Many hope that, similar to the successful “Prey” in 2022, this latest entry will rejuvenate the series and deliver fresh, engaging content to fans.
