The Powerball jackpot stood at $217 million with a cash option of $97.4 million ahead of the Saturday, April 4, drawing, lottery officials said. The numbers drawn that night were 3, 6, 13, 41 and 65, with a red Powerball of 01; the Power Play multiplier for the draw was 4x.

Powerball is sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands; Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah do not offer the game. Tickets are $2 per play, with an optional $1 Power Play add-on that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or sometimes 10x depending on the draw. Players pick five white-ball numbers from 1 to 69 and one red Powerball from 1 to 26, or may choose a Quick Pick for a computer-generated selection. Drawings are held Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights.

The march toward the April 4 drawing followed a March 2 jackpot hit in Arkansas, when a ticket matched the numbers for a $251 million prize. As of April 2 that winning ticket had not yet been claimed; winners in Arkansas have 180 days to come forward, the Arkansas Lottery said. Powerball has produced nearly 200 jackpot winners since the game began in 1992.

Recent years have included some of the largest jackpots in U.S. history. The biggest Powerball prize remains $2.04 billion, won in California on Nov. 7, 2022. Other nine- and ten-figure prizes in the past three years include multibillion-dollar and billion-dollar awards in 2024 and 2025, underscoring how large jackpots have become as they roll without a top-prize winner.

Buying rules vary by state: some jurisdictions allow online purchases, while in others tickets must be bought in person at authorized retailers such as convenience stores, gas stations and supermarkets. Purchasers do not need to be U.S. citizens or residents to play — noncitizens who are physically present in a participating jurisdiction and meet the minimum age requirement (usually 18) may buy tickets.

Players who match all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball win the jackpot. Smaller prizes are awarded for matching fewer numbers, and the optional Power Play multiplies those non-jackpot winnings. If no ticket matches all six numbers, the advertised jackpot continues to grow ahead of the next scheduled drawing.
