No winner emerged for the Century-spanning Powerball draw, but two California players punched a $1 million prize on the weekend by matching five numbers while missing the Powerball.

Saturday night’s drawing produced the numbers 3, 18, 22, 27, 33 and the Powerball 17. With no one matching all six, the $1 billion jackpot for the next drawing surged to $1.1 billion for Monday night.

Across the nation, nine tickets matched five numbers but did not hit the Powerball. Four of those were sold in California, including two in Southern California. One ticket was bought in Duarte at the 7-Eleven on 2705 E. Huntington Drive, and another in Ontario at Ontario Liquor, 1403 E. Fourth Street. The remaining two five-number-but-no-Powerball winners were in Milpitas and Pleasant Hill.

Monday’s drawing will be the fifth-largest Powerball prize in history. The record jackpot remains $2.04 billion, won by Edwin Castro in November 2022 at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena. The last Powerball jackpot-winning ticket was sold in May at a 7-Eleven in Arleta for $207 million.

If you’re curious about odds, the top prize requires hitting all six numbers and carries roughly a 1 in 292 million chance. The $1 million tier (matching five numbers without the Powerball) runs at about 1 in 11.7 million.

Bottom line: with a $1.1 billion prize on the line, the dream of a life-changing win continues to attract players, including several in California who walked away with $1 million each this weekend. As always, play responsibly.
