PG&E has announced a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) Watch for parts of northern San Luis Obispo County, driven by heightened fire danger due to forecasted hot, dry, and windy conditions. The potential power outages could affect customers in areas surrounding San Miguel, particularly on the east side of Highway 101, beginning as early as 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, and lasting until approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 21.
The PSPS protocols aim to mitigate wildfire risks during extreme weather events. Nearly 500 customers within the designated PSPS Watch area are being notified of the impending changes to their power supply.
In response to the PSPS, PG&E is prepared to open a Community Resource Center at the Cuesta College North County Campus, located at 2800 Buena Vista Dr. in Paso Robles. This center, available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., will offer essential resources such as blankets, snacks, water, device charging stations, an ADA-accessible restroom, seating, WiFi, and a washing station for the affected community.
In addition, Southern California Edison (SCE) has issued Power Shutoff Warnings for various locations along the Santa Barbara County south coast. Areas including parts of Goleta, Santa Barbara, and Montecito are also at risk, with increased fire risk conditions expected between 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, and midnight on Sunday, June 22. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepared for potential power outages.
As communities face these challenges, provisions such as resource centers demonstrate a proactive approach aimed at supporting residents during potentially difficult times. Residents can stay updated on whether their homes or businesses are under a PSPS Watch by checking the PG&E website for notifications.
