“Possibility of Flash Flooding as Fourth Heatwave Hits Peak”

Saturday marks the final day of the fourth heatwave this summer, with heat, humidity, and scattered strong storms potentially causing flash flooding.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The FOX43 Weather Team has declared today a Weather Impact Alert Day due to isolated damaging wind gusts, flash flooding, and the ongoing heat wave. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is in effect for the eastern half of the area until 9 P.M., and a FLOOD WATCH covers the entire area until 10 P.M. Temperatures feel like triple digits due to the high heat and humidity, marking the fourth day of the current heatwave, expected to last through early Saturday evening.

A portion of the area, including parts of York and Lancaster counties, has been upgraded to a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk for isolated damaging winds. Intense downpours may also lead to flash flooding in isolated areas. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely until 10 P.M., posing a flooding threat during that window. High humidity contributes to the risk of torrential rain. The threat of isolated damaging winds is expected to last until 9 P.M. Showers and storms should begin to taper off between dinnertime and sunset.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory until 8 P.M. Saturday due to the high heat index. It’s crucial to stay cool, take frequent breaks, and stay hydrated if you need to be outside. Wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothing can also help keep you cool.

Sunday will bring relief as temperatures drop back into the upper 80s, breaking the heat wave. Scattered afternoon showers and storms are expected, with a continued risk of isolated flooding. However, there is currently no severe weather threat.
