Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner have been cast as the central couple in the upcoming remake of the psychological horror film “Possession,” directed by Parker Finn. This project, which has seen intense competition among major studios, ultimately found a home with Paramount after a bidding war in July 2024 that included A24, Netflix, Warner Bros, and Sony.

The original 1981 film, featuring Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani, explores the unraveling relationship of a married couple, with the wife exhibiting alarming and peculiar behavior following the revelation of an affair. As their marriage deteriorates, the narrative delves into themes of obsession and horror.

Sources have confirmed that Qualley and Turner will embody the iconic roles from the original film. Qualley has recently showcased her talent in projects such as “Drive Away Dolls” and “Honey Don’t!” directed by Ethan Coen, as well as Richard Linklater’s “Blue Moon.” Her future projects include “How to Make a Killing” alongside Glen Powell and “The Dog Stars” with Jacob Elordi.

Turner is also making waves in the industry with his recent work in David Freyne’s “Eternity,” starring alongside Elizabeth Olsen and Miles Teller. Alongside “Possession,” Turner has upcoming roles in the Apple TV adaptation of “Neuromancer” and “One Night Only.” Notably, he is also being considered a frontrunner for the coveted role of the next James Bond, competing against actors like Henry Cavill, Theo James, Harris Dickinson, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

The original “Possession,” directed by acclaimed Polish filmmaker Andrzej Żuławski, is known for its deep psychological intrigue and horror elements. Parker Finn, who recently directed “Smile 2,” has garnered attention for his ability to craft sequels that build on the original narrative without falling into the pitfalls of superficial storytelling. Critics, such as those from Far Out, have praised “Smile 2,” suggesting that Finn has a promising vision for “Possession” that could captivate audiences once again.
