Portland October Concert Lineup: Stereolab, Lorde and More Set to Shine

On Thursday, October 16, Kassi Valazza will unveil her latest album, “From Newman Street,” in a performance at Mississippi Studios, located at 3939 N Mississippi Ave. The cover art of the album features Valazza with an expression of utter boredom while being served breakfast in bed, reminiscent of the complex emotional narratives often depicted in the songs of ’70s country icons like Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette. However, Valazza’s sound draws from a more modern, golden-hued, and faintly psychedelic style that has recently characterized the local country music scene. Portland artist Jeffrey Silverstein, known for his cosmic soundscapes, will open the show. Tickets are priced at $23.23 and the event is for those aged 21 and above.

On Sunday, October 19, the celebrated band Stereolab will perform at the Crystal Ballroom, 1332 W Burnside St, where they will showcase their latest work, “Holograms on Metal Film.” This album captures the vibrant spirit of the late ’90s when indie rock was merging with evolving genres of dance and pop music. Stereolab’s distinct sound—characterized by a blend of psychedelia, political themes, and orchestral sounds—remains as captivating as ever. The evening will feature an opening act by the Chicago synth collective Bitchin Bajas. Tickets are available for $53.86 and the event welcomes all ages.

Following this, on Tuesday, October 21, the immensely talented Lorde will grace the stage at Moda Center, 1 N Center Court St., to promote her new album, “Virgin.” Collaborating with producer Jim E. Stack, Lorde presents a more stripped-down and atmospheric sound, exploring themes of bodily imagery and visceral experiences through sharp lyricism. The album cover features a haunting display as Lorde literally showcases her bones, reflecting the raw nature of her new artistic direction. Having raised the bar high after the eclectic “Solar Power,” this latest offering may very well be her best work to date. Tickets are priced at $41.54 and are open to all ages.

These upcoming performances highlight a dynamic range of artists pushing boundaries in their respective genres, providing opportunities for music lovers to experience evolving sounds in person.
