An Illinois man has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor assault charges after an incident involving Rep. Nancy Mace in Washington. James McIntyre, 33, was accused of shaking Mace’s hand in an “exaggerated, aggressive” way during a meeting at the Rayburn House Office Building on Tuesday evening. Mace, a Republican representative from South Carolina, expressed that the encounter resulted in her needing a wrist brace and icing her arm.
According to Mace, during the handshake, McIntyre stated, “Trans youth serve advocacy.” Despite being open to the public, the Capitol building had security measures in place, and McIntyre had passed through a screening process prior to the incident.
Mace reassured her followers that she would recover from the pain and soreness in her wrist but later criticized the media for allegedly using the incident to promote a narrative of misogyny against women on the Left.
