The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is currently looking into an incident involving Hudson police, who shot a man allegedly wielding a hammer on State Route 91, also known as Darrow Road. The event unfolded early Tuesday morning around 4:11 a.m. when police received a 911 call reporting a man yelling at drivers.
Witnesses recounted seeing a man, bare-footed and wearing a t-shirt, aggressively confronting an officer while holding a hammer. In response to this threat, the officer discharged his weapon, resulting in the suspect being struck. He has since been transported to Summa Akron City Hospital for medical treatment, with the extent of his injuries and the number of shots fired remaining unclear.
Just before the police received the call about the man, he allegedly vandalized a nearby Sunoco gas station, smashing the front door glass with the hammer at approximately 4:04 a.m. The station’s owner, Nick Patel, reported that his alarm system alerted him of the break-in. Interestingly, he noted that the suspect did not steal any items nor enter the gas station following the damage.
In light of the shooting, the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association has urged the public to exercise patience as the investigation unfolds, asking that due process be respected. The names of the individuals involved, including the shooting officer and the suspect, have not yet been disclosed, and the police department has not confirmed whether any officers were injured during the incident.
The road was closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene, highlighted by video footage showing evidence markers and police activity. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of encounters between law enforcement and civilians.
