Defending champions Fiji Police Force are fully committed to their preparations for the highly anticipated Ratu Sukuna Bowl match against the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) on November 21 in Labasa. Team Manager and Director of Operations, SSP Wate Vocevoce, conveyed a sense of optimism regarding the team’s readiness, highlighting the successful recovery of players from minor injuries.
Vocevoce noted, “We have faced some challenges during our preparations, particularly with injuries, but our players are on the mend. I am confident they will be at 100 percent fitness for the match on November 21.” Several players returning from their participation in the Skipper Cup are reportedly making good progress in their recovery.
The Fiji Police team is set to leave for Labasa on Sunday, allowing them to acclimate to the northern weather conditions ahead of the significant match. Despite the absence of four senior players currently touring the Middle East, Vocevoce assured that there are many capable athletes in the squad who are prepared to step up, as they have been active in competitive play.
This year’s tournament theme, “United For Victory, Stronger Together Against Drugs and HIV,” underscores the event’s importance beyond mere competition between security forces. Vocevoce emphasized the occasion as a chance to engage the community in critical conversations about drug abuse and HIV, urging citizens to take an active role in their community alongside the police.
Anticipation for this year’s Sukuna Bowl is heightened not only by the athletic competition but also by its role in fostering community spirit and addressing social issues. The clash between the Fiji Police Force and RFMF is celebrated for its rich history and serves as a testament to the camaraderie and competitive spirit of both teams.
As the Fiji Police Force gears up for their title defense, they emphasize the vital role of collaboration and community support in their efforts. The event promises to be much more than a sporting occasion; it serves as a unifying platform for addressing significant social challenges, highlighting the strength of community ties in the collective fight against pressing societal issues.
