Niteshwar Prasad’s journey is a powerful testament to how unexpected life changes can lead to new and fulfilling paths. Once a police officer, Prasad’s life took a dramatic turn following a serious car accident in 2006. This pivotal incident prompted him to reassess his life choices and ultimately return to his agricultural roots in Muaniweni, Naitasiri.

Raised on a family farm, Prasad had initially not envisioned a future in farming. However, after the accident coupled with the loss of his mother that same year, he embraced the family farming business wholeheartedly. “The accident forced me to rethink my life,” he stated, reflecting on the significant impact it had on his direction.

Today, Prasad manages over ten acres dedicated to cultivating a wide variety of crops, including around 6,000 dalo plants and a section for pumpkins, along with a chicken shed. His background has instilled in him a deep appreciation for the hard work associated with farming. He takes pride in the health benefits of consuming produce grown without additives or diseases, highlighting that “everything we eat is fresh.”

Through his experiences, Prasad has discovered the numerous physical and mental benefits of farm life, noting that the daily labor keeps him healthy and strong. He recognizes the value of education and professional careers but urges others to explore the opportunities in agriculture. “There’s a lot of money in farming if you are willing to work hard and stay focused,” he remarked, emphasizing the potential for success in the agricultural sector.

Prasad’s optimism extends to his family as well; he hopes that one of his three children, who has shown interest in farming, will continue the family legacy. Looking back on his life choices, he feels no remorse about leaving his position in the police force. “I am happy and content as a farmer. I am my own boss,” he expressed, viewing the accident not as an ending but a transformative beginning.

His story embodies the idea that life’s most daunting challenges can sometimes guide us toward our true calling. Prasad’s determination and joy in farming highlight the potential for personal and professional fulfillment when one reconnects with their heritage and the land. These experiences serve as a reminder that embracing change can lead to enriching life journeys.
