Pogba’s Comeback: What Does His Monaco Move Mean for Ligue 1?

Paul Pogba has officially joined AS Monaco in Ligue 1, signing a two-year deal that brings him back to the football pitch after an extended absence. The former Manchester United midfielder, who was without a club for seven months, previously parted ways with Juventus after a mutual termination of his contract in November 2023.

AS Monaco proudly announced Pogba’s signing, highlighting the importance of the 2018 World Cup winner to the club’s ambitions. “Paul Pogba joins the team on a two-season deal, keeping him in the Principality until June 30, 2027,” the club stated on their official platform.

This signing comes after a turbulent period for Pogba, which included an 18-month ban for a doping violation initially issued in February 2024 after he had been provisionally banned in September 2023. Following the reduction of his ban, he became eligible to return to the sport in March but has not played a match since his last appearance as a substitute for Juventus in a 2-0 victory against Empoli.

At 32 years old, Pogba is set to reunite with fellow former Premier League player Eric Dier at Monaco, who also made a free transfer to the club this summer after leaving Tottenham. The club is looking forward to capitalizing on Pogba’s experience and talent to enhance their competitiveness after finishing third in Ligue 1 last season, trailing behind Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille.

With a fresh start in Ligue 1, fans and supporters remain eager to see how Pogba’s return will influence AS Monaco’s aspirations in the league. The arrival of a player known for his flair and notable achievements could reinvigorate the club’s campaign as they seek to close the gap at the top of the table.
